The last few weeks have been very up and down. We had a week of rain and warm weather and everyone thought winter was over, then last saturday (6th) we had another big dump of fresh snow. Over the course of the weekend we got 30cm snow and its cold again, so the ski season rolls on into March. Lifts in the area are all open and the loips are all in great condition with the added bonus that lots of sunshine is now forcast.

Lots of new snow over the past couple of weeks with 2 significant dumps. last night we had about 30cm new snow and its still snowing now. All the lifts here in sonnenberg are running and all the lifts in the lower resorts are open as well giving lots of choice for skiers & snowboarders. All the loips are in great condition and tracks are cut fresh each day. Temperatures are still well below freezing so the snow should stay in top condition for quite a while yet.

The snow just keeps falling at the moment. This weekend we have had about 30cm new snow and its still falling. All the lifts in the area are open and the loips are prepared each morning. The new snow canons in the biathlon zentrum are working away to make sure the season runs as long as possible ( i have a bet running for easter).

Still have great snow here in the Harz, temperatures are low (-10 today) with more snow forcast for tomorow. The sun has been shining for the last few days here in Sonnenberg with us being above the clouds. 2 of the 3 lifts in sonnenberg are working with the third still unused this season. The nordic tracks are all pisted but some remain “officialy” closed due to the wieght of snow and ice on the trees causing some to break.

Skiing Sonnenberg 09/01/10

Storms last night left us with about 30 -40cm new snow very windy today with most of the lifts in the area shut. perfect skiing if you have touring kit will be a great day tomorrow if the wind drops. As it is still snowing and windy the nordic tracks get covered quite quickly in places but most of the routes are sheltered in the trees.

New snow last night (about 3 -5cm) and the temperature has fallen quite a bit we are now back into minus numbers again. Moe snow is forcast for the coming days so hopefully we will get a good season.

Skiing Sonnenberg 26/12/09

had a mixed bag of weather over the last 2 weeks, had some rain, some new snow, some sunshine and now some wind. Had about 6 cm new snow last night and it was windy. The loips were tracked this morning and are in good condition round most of the routes (few grassy bits). 2 of the three slopes are open but the snow is a bit hard having been packed by stong winds and has a few icy patches about but no real problems here in sonnenberg. St Andreasberg has 2 runs open and the Wurmberg in braunlage has the Kaffeehorst lift running.

30 cm new snow fell on saturday with some colder temperature to help. The ground still isnt cold enough yet to allow a good base to form so the lifts are not yet open and the loips are not pisted. That hasnt stopped the people getting out and going for it anyway and so the people have cut their own tracks and its -5 ouside.

As yet the snow that has fallen here in Sonnenberg has melted away within a few days, however snow is forcast on Friday & Saturday with a good drop in temperature. Next week snow is forcast for tue night wed, thur, And friday also with low temperatures for a sustained period so keep your fingers crossed.

The ski season is fast approaching and we are preparing so that we will be ready for lots of snow (fingers crossed) The ski hire has lots of new ski’s for this season and ALL the snowboards have been replaced for this year, so if you want a bargain all the older stock is being sold off to make space with some of the snowboards for as little as 10€ . We will try to keep a small update going on here to let you know about snow conditions as often as time allows. or you can look on one of the many snow forecast sites for the Harz.
